Tipp places third in Urbana wrestling event

The Tippecanoe wrestling squad placed third overall in the Mike Agerter Memorial wrestling event at Urbana High School on Saturday. 

It was a solid day for the Red Devils, and opening the day at 106 was Declan Couch, who finished second overall in his weight class. Couch defeated Tyler Weimer via tech fall 17-2 and had another tech fall against Logan Danison of Lakewood, followed by a pin in 1:25 over Matthew Wampler of Dunbar. His final win was 12-8 over Aiden Ballinger of River Valley.

At 113, Trace Frazier finished 4-0 on the day with four pins, including 2:50 against Destin Olgesby of Northridge, who finished as the runnerup. 

Weighing in at 120, Carter Dennison finished 1-3 on the day, with his lone win coming against Zavier Hileman of Catholic Central in 1:23. His other three matches were losses via pin.

Kaden Holtzapple placed third overall at 132 for the Red Devils, starting his day with two wins in his pool. He defeated Mohamed Boussaha 15-1 and pinned Jordan Jackson of Urbana before advancing to bracket play. There, he defeated Thomas Ross of Dunbar in 48 seconds before falling to Carson Schehl of Lakewood 20-4 to drop to the third-place bracket. Holtzapple defeated Taylor Huffman from Northeastern in 1:44 to place third.

Eli Stacy finished 1-2 in his pool at 138, earning his win against Jesse Brown of Meadowdale in 1:00.

Chase McCormick finished third at 144, sweeping his three pool matches before advancing to the bracket. He lost his first bracket before dropping to the third place bracket, where he earned a win 8-6 over Avrian Babb of River Valley. 

At 150, Colton Adams finished 3-1 but did not advance to the bracket round. Adams earned all three of his wins via pin in the pool play.

Raiden Nicholls won his two pool matches and advanced all the way to the finals before falling 19-3 to finish as runner-up. Also in that pool, Wyatt Robbins also wrestled for Tipp in that weight class and advanced to the bracket, where he won a match before dropping to the third place match. Robbins then placed fourth overall.

At 175, Jared Maxfield finished 2-2 in pool play to place third overall in the pool. He defeated Zion Cranford of Dunbar 15-0 and pinned Hamilton Morales of Meadowdale in 0:29.

Finally for Tipp at 275, Brian Lomeli lost his two matches in pool play.
