Bowling squad sweeps Sidney
It was a good day for the Tipp bowling squads, as they hosted Sidney last week in MVL action at RollHouse Lanes in Huber Heights.
For the Red Devils boys squad, they knocked off the Yellow Jackets 1948-1938 in a thriller that saw Tipp start slow, then picked up steam in the second game and had good baker games to earn the win.
“In the first game, we didn’t do all that well,” Tipp coach Jim Ridgeway said. “Jonah Mayse did have a good opening game with a 187, but we were down by 60 pins after the first game.”
“We made up all of that in the game and went up by 20 pins. When you bowl, you have to get used to how the oil pattern is, and in the first game, it wasn’t reacting to where the kids were. I told them they had to move. When the pattern broke down, it started acting as it does at practice.”
In the baker games, Tipp rolled a 180 in the first game, then came back with a 167. Tipp lost by five pins in the baker games but won the match by ten pins.
“Conner DeMange bowled a 202 in the second game after a frustrating first game,” Ridgeway said. “He has improved every year, and he is so intense, and when he got on a streak with some breaks, he just kept going.”
The Tipp girls also were victorious 1506-1268.
“Alyssa Lunsford had a 369 with a 207 in game two. Her freshman sister Kate also had a 261 which isn’t bad for a first-year bowler,” Ridgeway said. “She is really coming along and just needs experience.”
*Tipp also defeated Butler in boys bowling 2088-2018.
“We were up 160 going into the baker games and didn’t have great baker games,” Ridgeway said. “I think they got the idea we were up by a lot so they slacked off a bit. I don’t like to tell them the scores, I tell them just go do your best.”
Leading the way for Tipp was Hunter Herzog with a 440, bowling a 215-225.
“He is trying to break the top five of the CBC and keeps bouncing between 6-10, so he was hoping today could help him get closer to the five. He can do it this year; he needs to be a little bit more consistent.”
DeMange rolled a 195-193 for a 388 series.
Tipp girls lost to Butler 1614-1557, and Tipp’s total was their high mark of the season. Kate Lunsford rolled a 150-165 to lead Tipp with 315. The older Lunsford had a 176-129 to finish second.
