Downtown Tipp tees up for a howling good cause with the Halloween Open

Downtown Tipp City is set to host a spooktacular new event this fall, blending fundraising, fun, and furry friends. On the latest episode of the Downtown Lowdown podcast, the official show of the Downtown Tipp City Partnership, Executive Director Tasha Weaver welcomed Rob Brown of Main Street Financial Group/Thrivent to announce the Halloween Open golf outing—Tipp City’s creative way to swing into the Halloween spirit while supporting the Miami County Animal Shelter’s future.

Golf, Giving, and Giggles

This October 27 at the Troy Country Club, the inaugural Halloween Open will see golfers (and those who simply enjoy a festive gathering) rally for MC PAW as they raise funds for the construction of a brand-new Miami County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center. "We think it’s going to be a howling good time," quipped Weaver, groaning at her own pun while the team laughed through playful banter about golf etiquette and driving carts into water hazards.

Main Street Financial Group/Thrivent stepped up as this year’s presenting sponsor. “We’re big believers in making downtown a vibrant place,” said Brown, sharing how their team loves to golf and serve the community. Even for non-golfers and animal lovers, the event is inclusive: pet sponsorships allow attendees to display their pets’ photos at various holes.

Thrivent: Impact and Action Teams

Rob Brown gave listeners a peek into Thrivent’s unique approach—a member-owned benefits organization that prioritizes mission over profit. With 36 years of experience in Tipp City and a legacy of giving back, Thrivent’s team has led numerous "action teams," offering grants for community projects, like beautifying downtown flowerpots. “We’re able to help people with causes they’re passionate about,” Brown explained.

Action teams and charitable giving are cornerstones of the organization’s service model. As Tasha noted, the Downtown Tipp City Partnership has benefited from Thrivent’s support—helping turn small grants and creative teamwork into tangible improvements for everyone who lives, works, and shops downtown.

More Fall Fun: Trick-or-Treat, Shredding, and Home Tours

In true Tipp City style, the event calendar is packed. October 25 brings the downtown merchant trick-or-treat and a public shredding event—perfect for cleaning up documents and snagging some Halloween sweets in one outing. The season’s highlight continues as Thrivent's historic building joins the December home tour, where ticketholders can explore its storied third floor. The office, famed for its secret garden and original stained glass, stands as both a business hub and a community treasure.
