Tipp suffers tough MVL loss at Troy

It was only one loss early in the season, but it was a tough defeat for the Tippecanoe girls soccer team.

Days after a rough loss at Summit Country Day, the Red Devils traveled to Troy for a huge Miami Valley League contest against Troy, a game that saw both offenses struggle to break through. It wasn’t until a ricochet in the box was put into the net by Troy’s Avery Noll gave the Trojans a 1-0 victory over Tipp, handing the Red Devils their first league loss of the season. “It was disappointing and it was a big game, a very emotional game with a lot of energy which is exciting,” Tipp coach Brent Palmer said. “We didn’t execute very well. We played hard at times but when you play against good teams, you have to make your chances when they come and they did that, while we struggled with that.” Tipp’s keeper Macie Taylor had a good save in the first ten minutes of the game to keep the game scoreless, then with 7:02 left in the opening half, Troy was in prime position to get the first goal. A shot ricocheted off the bar and fell wide left to keep the game scores.

Another nice save from Taylor off a Troy corner kick in the closing minute of the opening half sent the game into halftime without a score on the board. Noll scored the only goal at 19:41 left in the game in a scrap around the goal, and knocked one past Taylor for the game winner. Coming off an 8-2 loss to SCD, the Tipp girls rebounded well and came out battling, knowing how big a game it was going to be. Palmer was pleased with how they recovered quickly.

“Some of our youth showed a little bit last night, but it was a tough ask to turn around and come back after playing Summit and going into a big league game on the road, which is tough to do, but it is something we are capable of doing; we just fell short last night.” “We certainly made things a bit tougher on ourselves in terms of aspirations of winning the league, but we still hold all the cards,” Palmer said, noting big games ahead against Butler and Sidney. “It is a long season, only three games in, and we still have a large majority of our season ahead of us, and all of our goals we set out are certainly still within our reach.”

Tippecanoe took the field again on Saturday, only to fall short 8–3 to Dayton Carroll. The game was close late, only to see Carroll pull away in the last 10 minutes. The Red Devils received goals from Kenzie Curry, Marin Dakin, and Marin Perrault. Dakin also added an assist.
