Girls soccer hosts successful camp

Tipp also hosts combo camp with 180 campers

While the Tippecanoe girls soccer program lost several talented seniors last season, the Red Devils continue to build their program the right way, holding their annual youth camp recently at the Tipp Park Stadium. While the coaching staff and returning players worked with the future stars, Coach Brent Palmer feels it was a big success for these younger players moving forward.

“It was another girls soccer camp with over 30 campers at the stadium this year,” Palmer said. “The opportunity to be on the turf was really unique with some of these girls. We had a lot of girls from previous years and some freshman who used to be campers and it was great to see the continuity of kids who have come up through the program and invest in the younger players.” Camp lasted three days, and the first day with a lot more dribbling, second day was more passing and receiving and the third day was shooting with scrimmages each day.

“We tried to make it a fun activity to end on each evening, so we had a good mixture of activities and fun things the girls liked to do.” “Having our high school girls out here is huge, it allows them to grow into their voice a little bit and is a good lesson for them to learn that whether they realize it or not, these younger kids look up to them and are in a position where these younger kids want to be in one day.”

*Also last week, the Tipp girls and boys high school teams and coaches held a combination camp at Kyle Park, with 180 young athletes from Tipp City signing up for this successful event. “It is really driven by the high school players leading it and it is an awesome community event,” Palmer said. “It is a great community engagement both for our players and the campers who are there.”

“Last night was the worst of the nights with the heat, but we had a lot of water breaks and Kona Ice was there. Last night we had a nice treat for the kids. The Tipp City fire department showed up and sprayed off the campers so the kids had fun with that.”
