Accident Closes Main Street for Hours

Three vehicles were involved in an accident on Main Street at around 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. The accident, taking place just east of the train tracks on Main Street in downtown Tipp City, involved a Republic trash truck, a Culligan delivery truck and a small white car, a Chevrolet Trax with Ohio license plates.

Reportedly, the trash truck was picking up trash on the southern side of Main and the white car allegedly tried to pass on the left when it was struck by the Culligan truck, pushing the car backwards and into the trash truck.

We arrived after the driver had been extricated from the Trax, but a Jaws of Life machine was present, indicating the driver of the small white Trax may have had been trapped in the vehicle.

Witnesses reported hearing the sound of the accident from as far as a block away, describing the accident sounding like a “crunch” or a nearby explosion.

Witnesses also said that the driver of the white Trax was taken away in an ambulance, although that cannot be verified by this reporter.

Tipp City Fire and EMS Engine 32 was on the scene along with multiple members of the Tipp City Police Department.

Crews were on the scene for over two hours, cleaning up the large amount of debris created by the crash and spilled fluids from the vehicles.
