Tennis remains unbeaten in MVL with win over Butler
While the seniors were celebrated last week for the Tippecanoe mens tennis team, they put together a performance that allowed them to remain unbeaten on the season in league play, defeating Butler 4-1. On the season overall, the Red Devils are 10-2.
‘It was a good solid MVL win for us tonight,” Tipp coach Kaci Matthews said. “We never want to go into an MVL match unprepared and the majority of our guys were able to take advantage of all the reps they put in and how we have been playing.”
“Most of the guys are really buying in, and there is not a lack of effort. We are still learning how to win tight matches, but we are getting there. This competition is great for us to continue to grow and get better.”
Nick Von Krosigk had little trouble at first singles, as he defeated Korey Snyder 6-1, 6-1 to continue his strong play this season.
“He had a breakthrough match when we went to the Lexington Invitational last week,” Matthews said. “It came down to a tiebreaker and being able to pull through and you could see him get that “not going to lose” mindset and you could see him flip that switch on the court.”
Also at second singles, Alex Darner earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Karter Snyder.
“He is just a human backboard and works incredibly hard and is so smart,” Matthews said. “He has put in a lot of time in the offseason to make us a better team. Alex has had some very pivotal wins for us this season.”
Madoc Labreck defeated Grady Nardecclain at third singles 6-0, 6-3 to complete the singles sweep for the Red Devils.
Sadhil Mehta and Brecken Owen also picked up a win at first doubles, defeating Orr and Lakner 6-2, 6-0. Wrapping up the night was the Butler second doubles team of Caine and Schlaggeker who defeated Wes Chessir and Finn Gillenwater 2-6, 7-6 (5), 10-8.
“I also want to shout out Brecken,” Matthews said. “He is producing on the court and is constantly trying to learn. He is becoming tenacious and you can see him turn it on today.”
*Also in recent matches, Tipp defeated Toledo St. Francis 4-1, and had a close march against conference foe Sidney, only to escape 3-2 as all three singles matches were easily won by the Red Devils. Tipp also lost to Division One state ranked Beavercreek 5-0.
