Records Broken at Wayne Invitational
In the annual two-day track meet at Wayne High School, two school records were broken. This meet is highly competitive and is one of the largest track meets in the state. Performing at the top of an event is a great feat, but select Bulldog athletes were able to do it.
On Thursday, May 1, the distance medley record was broken. This record was only previously set during the 2024 season. This race consists of 4000 meters run, but each runner races a different distance.
Jenna Brumbaugh opened the race up running 1200 meters, Autumn Brazie was next and ran 400 meters, following that was Sydnie Bartlett who ran 800 meters, and finally Aubree Bates closed the race running 1600 meters.
The team finished with a time of 13:17.69, which earned them sixth place overall. They received a spot on the podium at Wayne, which is a difficult thing to accomplish. Also on Thursday, Colin Hinkelman competed in the 3200-meter run (rising stars). Since there are so many runners at this meet, many of the events are split into “rising stars” or “elite” races.
Hinkelman finished in seventh place out of 66 total runners in a time of 9:44.11. This time broke the school record as well for the 2-mile. And finally, one last big accomplishment at the Wayne Invitational took place on Friday, May 2, in the second day of the meet.
Brumbaugh competed in the 800-meter dash (elite) and finished in second place overall. There were 70 total runners in this race. Brumbaugh also hit a massive personal best time, finishing the race in 2:16.90. She is extremely close to breaking the school record for this event, which currently sits at a time of 2:16.41.
This track season is heading toward the end, where the first day of the Three Rivers Conference Championships begins on May 15. Good luck to all the track athletes in the postseason!
