Parents Who Care: Making a Difference

BY MARISSA HOLLON

All it takes is one person to step up to make a difference. To volunteer their time or give a small donation. To help out those around them. These seemingly minor actions can make a world of difference to small organizations around the community, especially Parents Who Care (PWC). PWC is a volunteer organization dedicated to helping high school students engage in a safe and fun environment. Donating nearly $20,000 yearly towards this goal, PWC helps fund events such as Powderpuff, After Prom, and the Top Scholar Banquet. Through the generous donations of others and the effort the volunteers put into keeping this program alive, PWC has been able to foster an atmosphere of enthusiasm and gratitude within the student body. Recently the PWC Board has been working to plan and coordinate Tipp’s After Prom at Scene 75, a lively event that all of the students look forward to each year.

With one of their most anticipated events creeping closer, Parents Who Care has been in full spring these past few weeks. Through dozens of fundraisers and donations from a generous community that cares about the safety of their students, PWC fully funds the rental of Scene 75, an After Prom buffet, and over $1,000 worth of raffle prizes. With nearly $18,000 spent on this exciting and invigorating event each year, PWC is always looking for the help of more volunteers to help fundraise, plan, and work. The Parents Who Care meetings are an open invite to any concerned parent in the district. For more information about meeting details feel free to check the district calendar or weekly parent email from the schools, as well as the PWC Facebook page. PWC’s current president, Shannon Snipes states, “We are always looking for more funding and volunteers to help expand safe opportunities for our students, so feel free to reach out.” An organization that is always looking for dedicated parents and volunteers is reaching out to a tight knit and caring community as they approach the end of this school year, in hopes of giving a student body the safe and fun environment all parents could hope for.

Parents Who Care has been changing the definition of ‘fun’ for students since 1993. Creating such a positive and impactful environment for students to grow and foster their relationships is one in which they are safe and well provided for. From funding meals at the Powderpuff game to forming closer ties with the Student Senate, to working closely with the Athletic Department, PWC has grown to fully envelop the students’ best interests in the community today. All it truly takes now is one more dollar, one more hand, one more voice, to truly catapult this organization into a world of possibilities for students.

Donations can be mailed to Tippecanoe High School (615 E Kessler-Cowlesville Rd, Tipp City, OH 45371) and addressed to Parents Who Care.
