Lunch Break: Pretty In Pink

Sampling dishes and diners in and around Miami County

Although Tipp City did just gain a new coffee shop, it didn't necessarily gain a new breakfast menu. I was also in the mood for less of a classic brew and more of a sugary start to my day. Therefore, I decided to venture once again to Englewood to try somewhere that I’ve been curious about for a while now. After passing the teeny tiny coffee shop around once a week, I finally took a trip to Cafe 19.

The adorable and colorful cafe is actually one of two locations. However, I took a quick scan of the menu and decided I definitely wanted to try the food. Although the West Milton location is a little closer to home and has a variety of fun drinks, the menu looked more promising in Englewood. Upon my entrance to the shop, I was pleasantly surprised by the cozy atmosphere. The building is connected to a storefront, and has a few cute paintings of coffee, and a booming drive-through visible on the exterior.

The drive-through is very popular, and the inside also houses a lot of customers. This is why Cafe 19 seems to be running quite a tight ship. That being said, I cannot stress enough how kind the staff were when taking my order. Unfortunately, I've noticed that in many places, if you're under 21 or look teenager adjacent, the kindness you receive as a customer drops around 40%. I’m not really sure why, since many younger people have jobs as waitresses, and are prone to tipping nicely out of a mutual understanding. In contrast, it was nice to be met with a smile and suggestions when ordering. My recent visit to Matty Q’s and now Cafe 19 has restored some of my faith in customer service kindness.

The reason I say Cafe 19 runs a tight ship is that they’re incredibly efficient in taking orders. I had just enough time to admire some of the cute plants, handwritten signs, and the interactive chalkboard wall when I received my meal. I had ordered a pink sugar cookie latte, which tasted like a delicious iced coffee with a frosted animal cracker topping. To my girlish delight, the drink was actually pink! The cold foam top had a slight pinkish hue that beautifully melted into the bottom coffee layer.

I also ordered the breakfast standard, a sausage, egg, and cheese bagel. This bagel was absolutely gargantuan. I think I could have hit my protein goal for the day in the egg quantity alone. The eggs were tastily layered with melted golden cheese and topped with salty and delicious sausage patties. The salty sandwich was perfect when cut with the sweetness of my latte.

Even if I’m just taking a quick trip through the drive-through, I’ll definitely be returning to Cafe 19. The people were kind, and the food and coffee were amazing. I’m excited to try the stuffed French toast next.
