West Milton Spring Sports Roundup
A lot of exciting things have been happening for Milton athletes this spring sports season. Starting from April 15, all the updates for each specific sport can be found below.
Tennis:
The tennis team has had a great season—they have yet to lose a match.
On April 15, they competed against Northridge, where they won 5-0. Freshman Chase Roy was named “Dog of the Day.” This win allowed the team to move their record to 8-0.
On April 17, the team competed against Springboro's “B” team and won 4-1. Brock Hammond was named the “hands down ‘Dog of the Day for his 7-6, 6-4 win at third singles,” coach Brackman states. Hammond’s match was a 2.5 hour battle. This moved their record to 9-0.
Their next match was against Carlisle, where they won once again, 5-0. Carson Lavy earned the “Dog of the Day” title!
On Monday, April 21, another win was tacked on to the record. A 3-2 win over Bellbrook put the team at 11-0. Titus Copp and Tyler Combs came back from being down 1-4 in the third set to win 3-6, 7-6, and 6-4. Their comeback is what clinched the match for the day, earning them both “Dog of the Day.”
In a matchup with a strong Oakwood team, the boys won 3-2, moving their overall record to 12-0. Copp earned the special title once again for his win at third singles.
And in the most recent update, on April 23, the team won over Alter 3-2. Their record stands at an impressive 13-0.
Baseball:
The baseball team has also picked up plenty of wins this season as they play games nearly every day.
Senior Wyatt Kimmel was named Buffalo Wild Wings Athlete of the Month for April. With data from April 16, Kimmel is currently first in the Three Rivers Conference in batting average (.524), home runs (1), wins (3) and strikeouts (38) as a pitcher. He is second in runs batted in (RBI’s) with seven. At this point, the team stood at a record of 5-1 where he played a key role.
On April 17, the team played against Riverside, where they won 5-0. On April 21, the team fell to inner-conference team Bethel 7-3. Only one day later, the team lost once again (4-2) to another conference opponent, Lehman Catholic. And on April 23, the boys defeated Tri-Village 7-4.
Softball:
On April 16, the softball team played against Dixie, where they won 7-5. During the game, senior Mylee Jones recorded her 100th strikeout of the season. On April 17, the girls took another win over Riverside. In a huge win with a score of 15-0, the team advanced their record and won over inner-conference team Lehman Catholic. Finally, on April 23, the team took a big loss to Tri-Village, 10-1.
Track:
Although there are consistent updates on the track and field’s team performance, senior Payton Mayfield recently committed to continue his career. He will be running track at Indiana Wesleyan University. Levi Tracy also committed to Waynesburg University to continue high jumping.
