Milton athletes shine at Miami County Invitational
The track and field team competed at the Miami County Championships on April 22 in Piqua. The girls team finished in third place overall, only falling behind Troy and Tippecanoe.
Starting the meet off strong, the girls 4x800 meter relay team finished in first place. This team consists of Jenna Brumbaugh, Aubree Bates, Sydnie Bartlett, and Amelia Iddings.
In the girls 100-meter hurdles, Kate Copp took third place finish out of 20 runners in a time of 17.40. Teammate Sophie Layman finished in ninth with a time of 18.56.
In the boys 110-meter hurdles, senior Will Johns placed tenth out of 22 runners in a time of 18.36.
Also on the boys side, Payton Mayfield placed fifth in the 100-meter dash in 11.52 seconds.
In a competitive girls 1600-meter run, Bates finished seventh of 21 runners. She ran this mile in a time of 5:53.34.
Also competitive on the boys side, Andrew Oaks placed eleventh with a time of 4:58.86, and Liam Hartley placed thirteenth in a time of 5:03.64.
Mayfield took a fourth place finish in the boys 400-meter dash, running it in a time of 51.76 seconds.
Copp and Layman also competed in the girls 300-meter hurdles, where they placed fourth and sixth. Copp finished in 51.53 seconds and Layman in 52.04 seconds.
Mason Quesinberry competed in the boys 300-meter hurdles, where he finished in fifth out of 20 in a time of 45.46.
Brumbaugh raced in the girls 800-meter run, where she placed first overall by 10 seconds. She ran the two laps in 2:21.57.
In the boys 3200-meter run, Colin Hinkelman placed second, running the two miles in a time of 9:51.79.
And in the final running event of the night, the girls 4x400 meter relay team finished in third place with a time of 4:22.58. The boys team placed third as well with a time of 3:35.98.
In the field events, beginning with the girls high jump, Copp placed fifth out of 15, where she jumped a height of 4’ 8”. On the boys’ side, Levi Tracy also placed third after jumping a height of 5’ 8”.
In the girls long jump, Brumbaugh placed third as she jumped a maximum distance of 16’ 5”. On the boys side, Mayfield placed third and jumped a distance of 21’ 4”.
And in the boys pole vault, Sam Milnickel placed fourth, where he vaulted a height of 13’ 6”.
As for upcoming meets, the team competes in the Wayne Invitational on May 1 and 2.
