This cannon from the Civil War was presented to The Grand Army of the Republic (a local organization) in 1904. It weighs nine tons and needed five teams of horses to pull it up the hill. Cannon Hill was on the corner of 5th and Broadway and for many years was the site of Memorial Day ceremonies.

The large base was purchased by the GAR. The right side reads "To the memory of the Soldiers and Sailors that served in the Army during the Civil War from 1861-1865." The left side reads "Erected by D.M. Rouzer Post GAR and presented by them during services in Tippecanoe on July 4, 1904. When the Broadway gym was built the cannon was moved and the hill was flattened. The cannon now proudly sits in front of the American Legion on the corner of 3rd and Park Street.
