Updates within the Milton-Union Sports World

As fall sports have officially wrapped themselves up, coaches and athletes are preparing for a busy winter.

To start with some fun that happened recently, the junior and senior classes competed against one another in the annual Powder Puff Football game.

The game was cold but successful, where the seniors took the win 14-12 in a thrilling victory.

And to officially end fall sports, many athletes were honored at the Three Rivers Conference (TRC) First Team banquet on Nov. 10. Bulldogs honored were Grant Hinkelman, Colin Hinkelman, Andrew Oaks, Mason Quesinberry, Jesse Williamson, Charlie Lane, Seth Lowry, Jacob Fraley, Kate Copp, Addison Case, Kennedy Nichols, Michaela Firks, Aubree Bates, Chloe Crabtree and Evie Dehus.

On a harder-hitting note, Kevin Brackman has announced his resignation after five successful seasons as boys tennis head coach.

Throughout his five years, he produced 16 district qualifiers, eight sectional champions, and two state qualifiers. As an entire team, the ‘dogs have been ranked No. 1 in the Dayton area, No. 3 in the Southwest District and No. 9 in the state. They have won over 70 matches and have even competed against schools that have four times the number of students as Milton.

Brackman was also named Miami Valley Coaches Association Coach of the Year in Division II last year.

In an interview with Milton-Union Athletics, Brackman shared, “‘The tradition of this program cannot go away. Thank you for allowing me to lead this program - I’ve enjoyed it more than I’ll ever be able to put into words. I plan to use my extra time to be with my family and watch my kids get involved in sports of their own.’”

Congratulations to Mr. Brackman on a successful career!

In the world of winter sports, they are just getting started. Although no matches or games have been had, the teams are gearing up as they’ve hosted tryouts, practices, scrimmages, team bonding, and even their media days.

The girls basketball team will open their season up on Nov. 22 against the Newton Indians, the boys basketball team will have played on Nov. 13 against Dixie, and the wrestling team will have competed on Nov. 15 at Versailles.
