Bowling season begins tomorrow
With the colder weather brings the start of a new bowling season for the Tippecanoe Red Devils. While they will call RollHouse home again this winter, coach Jim Ridgeway is gearing up for the start of new things which begins tomorrow night as Greenville comes to town.
“I am really optimistic about the boys this year, they have mostly juniors and a couple of good seniors.”
Ridgeway is counting on Hunter Herzog to have another great season to lead the Tipp boys squad.
“He was all conference last year after a great season,” Ridgeway said. “He has been bowling in a couple of leagues in the offseason and has done well there and he maintains a high passion for bowling.”
He also noted Connor DeMange as another bowler who could really open some eyes again this year.
“I am looking forward to him coming out of his shell and last year was a breakout year for him,” Ridgeway said. “He picked it up a bit and I hope he really continues that.”
The Tipp coach will be counting on good leadership from senior Hayden Sherwood.
“As far as team spirit and leadership, he really did an excellent job last year,” Ridgeway said, and is counting on his scores to also rise this season.
Ridgeway also noted a few other bowlers to watch on the boys side this year including Logan Roach, who has an excellent shot to take the last varsity spot according to the coach.
“He had never bowled before last year and he really started to do well toward the end of the season,” Ridgeway said of the junior. Jackson Cheadle is another player who continues to develop his game according to the Tipp coach.
Ridgeway looks for the boys to be improved and would like to get two guys on the all-conference team at the end of the season which would be an improvement.
On the girls side, Tipp will have to replace nearly everyone who stepped onto the lanes last season with five seniors graduating so Ridgeway is counting on several juniors to step up and be a factor this season.
“Alyssa Lunsford was our second best bowler last year as a sophomore and she has been bowling well in the leagues,” Ridgeway said. “I am counting on her to be the centerpoint of what we want to do as a girls squad this year.”
Rebecca Barga is another bowler that the Tipp coach is hoping steps up and takes a leadership role. She is also an avid gymnast.
“She has a great attitude and has been working on her game,” Ridgeway said. He also noted Kate Lunsford is a freshman who could be a factor this season. He said the fourth and fifth spots are open and he hopes to have bowlers step up and take those spots.
