Cam Smith named MVL Player of the Year
While the Tippecanoe boys soccer team finished third overall in the Miami Valley League this season, several players earned a spot in the annual MVL all-conference team, voted on by the coaches in the league.
At the top of the honors was Cameron Smith, Tipp’s senior leader who the Red Devils saw deliver many times this season. Smith led Tipp with 66 points which was tied for second overall in the league. He walked away with the MVL Player of the Year honors along with first-team all-league honors, one of four Red Devils who received those honors. Smith led with 25 goals along with 16 assists.
Preston Harding also was named to the first-team, along with senior Kaleb Logan who stepped up all season with some big contributions to the teams success this season.
The final Tipp senior to be named to the first-team was Colin Turner.
Troy and Butler also dominated the first-team selections, as Troy landed four on the list with Butler adding three.
From Troy, Matthew Batch, Colt Courtad, Kevin Hopilito and Joshua Murphy all found themselves among the top players on the first-team. Butler added Matheus Ampuero Alvarez, Tyler Aucoin and Heath Thompson to the top group.
Also on the first-team included Jaden Danklefsen from Sidney, Jeremy Fernandez of West Carrollton, Adam Laamri from Fairborn along with Braxton Penrod and Bryce Streid from Piqua.
Two more members of the Tippecanoe squad were selected to the second-team all-MVL as Eli Kettel and Maddox Robinson, both crucial players in the Tipp success.
Zac Rambos from Sidney was also voted onto the second-team, along with Brennen Angle from Piqua, John Augustine, Dylan Unger and Zachary Bridge from Troy, Gryffin Bradley and Lucas Pottorf from Butler, Owen Clinger and Ezra Gumbert from Fairborn, Derrick Duckworth and LaDarius Perry from West Carrollton, Conner Feldner from Greenville, Aiden Perez from Xenia and John Wilson from Stebbins.
*Leading the way in the conference on the offensive end of the field was Laamri as the Fairborn striker scored 77 points, 11 ahead of the runner up which included Smith.
While Smith placed fourth in the league with his 25 goals, it was Laamri and Murphy leading the way with 27.
Laamri was again at the top with 23 assists while Tipp’s Robinson and Smith shared a close third with 16.
Cole Venters, the Tipp keeper, led the MVL with 6.5 shutouts on the season, with his teammate Lucas Stout was tied for third with four shutouts for the Red Devils.
