Tippecanoe High School students question Board of Education candidates

For an hour and 45 minutes on Monday evening, October 27, a group of Tippecanoe High School students threw questions at the four Board of Education candidates in the high school auditorium. Two of the candidates will be elected on Nov. 4th to replace current Board members Amber Drum and Rick Mains.

The students all sat in a long line in front of the auditorium stage, the candidates sat on the stage in front of the students, and Tipp citizens sat behind the students, quietly listening to the candidates’ answers.

The four candidates were Katie Ernst, Joshua Grear, Karen Kaibas, and Lydia Pleiman. Ernst, Grear, and Kaibas are write-in candidates.

After one of the students asked a question, each candidate, in turn, approached the microphone on the stage and answered it, with a one-minute time limit to complete their answer. One student, sitting directly in front of the microphone, waved a yellow paper at the 45-second mark and stopped the candidate from speaking after 1 minute if the candidate had not finished.
