Cross Country Races before Conference Meet
The cross country team competed in the annual weekday Dave Lightle Invitational in Tipp City on Wednesday, Oct. 1, as their last race before the big conference meet. This race is only two miles, which differs from their typical 5k.
The team is heading into the Three Rivers Conference (TRC) Invitational and reaching for a three-peat. It was key for them to have fresh legs and take the weekend before off.
The girls competed first, and sophomore Aubree Bates led. She placed seventh overall in a time of 12:55.7. Following behind her was Amelia Iddings in 26 at a time of 13:49.5, Sydnie Bartlett in 29 with a time of 13:55.1 and Alaina Manning in 61 in a time of 15:30.7. Finishing three in a row was Mallory Coate in 69 with a time of 15:57.6, Jessa Lightner in 70 with a time of 16:00.1 and Lola Taylor in 71 with a time of 16:03.9.
The team placed fifth overall out of 12 total teams.
On the boys side, Colin Hinkelman was matched up against more competition than he’s been used to, but still placed within the top 10. He ran the race in a time of 10:10.3, which placed him seventh overall. Behind him was younger brother Grant Hinkelman, who placed 16th in a time of 10:35.9. Andrew Oaks came in next with a time of 10:55.4, which placed him 24, Chase Parsons in 40 with a time of 11:18.7, Tyler Shoemaker in 51 with a time of 11:31.8, and Finn Hinkelman in 59 with a time of 11:38.6
The team placed fourth overall out of 14 total teams.
They will have competed in the TRC Championships on Saturday, Oct. 11, at Milton-Union. As stated, both teams are going for their third straight conference title!
