The rain stopped just in time for the Tipp Monroe Optimists with assistance from the high school Octagon Club and Tipp-Monroe Community Services to sponsor the Junior Run for the Mums on Sunday, September 29th on the Tipp City football field.
Seven races were held with participants divided by age and gender. The Mum festival Queens court presented our awards.
Top runners for 5&6 years old girls, running the full length of the field, were 1st place Brooke Shafer, 2nd place Madelyn Calkins, 3rd place Rachel Vaughn,4th place Nola Eberly, 5th place Isabel Eichhorn, 6th place Katelyn Hartke and 7th place Penny Bathgate. Top runners for the 5 & 6 years old boys were 1st place was awarded to Will Strong, 2nd place Lucca Adkins, 3rd place Collin Turner, (all three of these boys having their personnel best at this event) 4th place Andrew Gagnon, 5th place Carson Jackson, and 6th place Jack Sinning.. Also participating for 5 & 6 year old boys were Grant Cole, Ethan Heisey and Noah Neisey.
Ages 7 & 8 ran one lap around the football field; Savanna Dean placed 1st (having her personnel best), Gracie Gangnon placed 2nd, Emma Gagnon placed 3rd, Cally Carpenter placed 4th , Scarlet Eberly placed 5th, Madison Featherstone placed 6th and Lillian Graham placed 7th. Nolan Alspaugh, Rylan Caldwell, and Caden Turner took the 1st three places for the 7 & 8 year old boys and Brad Hernandez, Bryan Garcia and Mark Hernandez rounded out the top 6 places.
Placing in the 9 & 10 years old boys race (2 laps around the field) were 1st place Drew Mason, 2nd Lucas Smith and 3rd Drew Harshbarger, Nathan Gagnon, Griffin Caldwell and Gabe Dean rounded out the top six places. Also participating was Noah Calkins, Griffin Anderson, Davis Featherstone and Kaiden Carpenter. The 9 & 10 years girls had Hannah Rittenhouse, Annie Sinning, and Erika Garcia taking the first three places in that order with Laely Bishop placing 4th.
Running four laps around the field were the 11 & 12 years olds – winners for the boys were 1st place Jake Rowland, and second was Nathan Harshbarger. Honorable mention was 3 year old Jacob Harshbarger who ran two of the laps with his brother. We had no girls running in this age category.
The first through third place winners of each race received a Tshirt in addition the first place also received a mum and a medal. All other participants got ribbons. All runners were also treated to apples and bananas donated by Meijer.
