In the four years of investigating the Midnight Shadows Paranormal Society (M.S.P.S) has discovered a lot of activity at Browse Awhile Books. Their mound of collected evidence will be presented on a national stage as the television series ‘My Ghost Story,’ is doing a feature on the group’s findings in the Tipp City book store.

Co-founder of the MSPS, John Allen Dershem submitted the material to ‘My Ghost Story’ and was flown to Hollywood for the taping. A camera crew also came to Tipp City to film footage within Browse Awhile. For Dershem the whole experience is about educating the public and raising the level of respect given to the subject.

“We strive for more paranormal awareness in the community. Our group isn’t about seeking fame, but just doing what we enjoy. Shows like this make people more accepting of letting us in to investigate,” said Dershem.

Airing on the Biography channel, ‘My Ghost Story,’ features true and astonishing first person stories of the paranormal, told by the people who lived through them - and actually caught evidence on film or tape. “From moving furniture to dark apparitions to violent poltergeists, these harrowing eyewitness accounts of the unexplainable are transformed into more than just tales with terrifying visual and auditory evidence. Everybody has a ghost story, but our storytellers have theirs on film or tape,” said Senior Producer, Courtney Armstrong.

The M.S.P.S often investigate at Browse Awhile Books and always experience some sort of activity, including the sight of shadowy figures, books thrown from shelves and the sound of footsteps A total of 13 spirits have been confirmed at the location, with the number continuing to rise. Among them is little girl whose been spotted in the aisles wearing a white dress.

On a recent investigation, Brian Stephens, director of Valley View Paranormal; a group that M.S.P.S partners with endured some physical effects from one of the spirits. After picking on Dershem scratch marks were left on the neck of Stephens. “They are protective of me,” Dershem explained.

Another instance which will be detailed on ‘My Ghost Story,’ a spirit briefly overtook the body of Stephens. It’s one of the most chilling moments any of the investigators have ever experienced.

The basement of Browse Awhile is regarded as the most haunted area. A new method of testing done by M.S.P.S is using canines. Three dogs were walked through the store and as will be shown on the show, they refused to go down the stairs into the basement and became very agitated. “We are always testing new theories, next we are trying felines,” said Dershem.

The M.S.P.S will also be featured on upcoming episodes of ’The Other Side,’ an online series, which will cover investigations of Browse Awhile and Midwest Memories, as well as the Spitfire Grill in Vandalia.

The ’My Ghost Story’ episode is scheduled to air in April or May.
