Behind some solid swimming from Anna Klepinger and Michael Taylor, the Tippecanoe swim team recently captured a dual meet from league foes Kenton Ridge and Urbana, as both the boys and girls used their combined scores to earn victories in the meet at the Miami County YMCA.
“Tipp’s swimmers got a taste of conference competition,” said Tippecanoe coach Tim Rambeau.  Both Kenton Ridge and Urbana had strong swimmers, but the Red Devils had a little more depth and talent.”
Klepinger won two events in the girls’ meet, capturing the 200 Free (2:30.34) and the 50 Free (28.94).  As for Taylor, he also won two events, placing first in the 500 Free (6:17.05) and the 100 Breaststroke (1:11.01).
Enya Gernon also won the 100 Yard Butterfly for the Red Devils, swimming a time of 1:17.18, edging out her teammate Jessica Walland, who finishes second with a time of 1:19.84.
Emily Doll won the 500 yard Freestyle for the Red Devils with a time of 6:43.08, two seconds ahead of Tipp freshman Carsyn Woltz, who swam a 6:45.49.  In the 100 Yard Backstroke, Walland captured the win with a time of 1;14.55, with Woltz placing second (1:18.31).
The Tipp 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team of Allison Sinning, Walland, Woltz and Doll won that event with a time of 4:29.34, comfortably finishing ahead of Urbana who earned second.
For the boys’ team, Adam Buynak captured the event with a time of 2:23.81, just .13 seconds ahead of second place Brian Rexroth from Kenton Ridge.  The other Tipp championship came from the 400 yard freestyle relay team of Harrison Miller, Jay Schairbaum, Drew Woodworth and Buynak, who won with a time of 4:17.59.
Other second-place girls’ finishers for Tipp included the 200 Yard Medley relay team of Walland, Woltz, Gernon and Sinning, as they fell four seconds behind the winning group from Kenton Ridge.  Tipp’s time was 2:14.08.  Sinning came back and finished second in the 100 Yard Freestyle event with a time of 1:06.55, and the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team of Nikita Parks, Adrienne Crusey, Klepinger and Gernon was runner-up with a time of 2:06.14.
Gernon also placed second in the 100 Yard Breaststroke by swimming a 1:21.01.
The group of Schairbaum, Taylor, Buynak and Woodworth finishes second for the boys’ 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 2:01.02, and Alex Daniel placed second in the 50 yard freestyle, with a swim of 26.49.
* Also, the Red Devils girls’ team finished fifth out of eight teams at the Fairmont Invitational.  Walland was fifth in the 100 Meter IM, and fifth in the 100 Freestyle.  Woltz was also fifth for Tipp in the 50 Breaststroke.  The boys’ team placed ninth out of 13 teams, with the highest placers going to Taylor, who was second in the 50 Breaststroke.
“With over 350 swimmers, our swimmers got to see a large invitational and great competition on their first away meet of the season,” Rambeau said.  “There were many fast times from other Division Two rivals that Tipp will swim at sectionals.  Hopefully our swimmers took note and will find motivation to work harder.”
