Despite the wet conditions Friday, the Tippecanoe football squad stayed grounded, pounding an overmatched host Indian Lake team, 56-6.
With the CBC crossover victory, the Red Devils improved to 4-0 and look forward to hosting Ben Logan Friday in week five in another crossover game.
The Red Devils scored early and often against the Lakes. Three first quarter touchdowns triggered a 21-0 advantage.
Kudos to senior running back Cameron Johnson, who averaged 13 yards for eight carries, tallied four rushing TDs -- a career high. His first TD run was 18 yards. He followed his first TD with scoring runs of 19, 31 and six yards.
Other Red Devils tallying scores included Alex Hall (35 yards), Ben Hughes (7 yards) and Cameron Gibbs (16 yards).
Logan Dawes scored a third-quarter TD on a fumble recovery in the end zone.
Senior kicker Taylor Clark was perfect with eight straight PATs.
The Lakers, who fell to 1-3 for the season, were stifled on offense by the solid Red Devil defense.
This Friday the Red Devils host the Raiders of Ben Logan for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
Turning to Red Devil soccer, the girls remain undefeated with consecutive shutout wins last week.
In a home match, the girls blanked Ben Logan, 8-0. In an away game, the girls whitewashed Indian Lake, 10-0, giving the squad a 9-0-2 overall mark and 5-01 in the CBC.
Senior Sarah Harmer tallied three goals, and McKenzie Logan had two. Jenna Zuzolo, Megan Rittenhouse and Lexi Blair had single goals.
Assists were recorded by Zuzulo, Rittenhouse, Chelsea Clawson and Lexi McCormick.
In overpowering the Raiders, four Red Devils had two goals -- Harmer, Clawson, Logan and Rachel Moore. Blair and McCormick scored single goals.
The Red Devils are slated to play a key non-league game on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 3 p.m. when they host state powerhouse Indian Hill.
Meantime, the boys also host Indian Hill on the same day at 7 p.m.
The boys stand at 8-2-1 after nipping visiting Ben Logan squad 1-0. Jon Pfister scored midway in the second half on an assist from Kevin Ryan.
Finally, the Red Devil tennis team dropped to 8-6 for the season after being blanked 5-0 by the strong Miami Valley School team.
The three Tipp singles players -- Hailey Winblad, Taylor Sutton and Nefeli Supinger -- were held to seven totals games won in straight set losses.
The team hosted Tecumseh on Tuesday, too late for inclusion in the Sept. 25 issue of the Gazette.
The Division II sectional in Troy is scheduled to start in the first week of October.
