The last time these two girls basketball teams met, Tippecanoe exploded out to a 17-point lead over Stebbins after the opening period, never looking back for an easy win. Stebbins didn't want that to happen again when they met on Saturday to begin the second-half of league play.
The Indians watched again as the Red Devils blitzed them with a 15-3 lead to start the game, and Tippecanoe never let up, cruising to a 63-32 rout of Stebbins at Pat Wampler Gymnasium.
It didn't take the Red Devils long to set the tone for this game, as they jumped out to a fast 5-0 lead, and with 1:20 left in the opening period, five different Red Devils had scored and they led 11-1.
Halee Printz, who led the way with 16 points for the Red Devils, capped off the first quarter with a free throw and three-pointer at the buzzer, pushing the Tipp lead to 12 after the opening period.
Tipp added to their lead when McKensie Logan opened the second quarter with a three, and a pair of free throws by Chelsea Clawson took the lead to 20-3.
Stebbins finally answered when senior point guard Briana Williams scored five quick points to breath some life back into the Indians. Williams scored the next eight points for Stebbins, but another three from Logan and a pair of free throws by Carly Clodfelter kept the distance at 25-11.
"I thought defensively we did a nice job on Bri, we didn't want to give her anything easy," Tippecanoe coach Aaron Jackson said. "We knew that if we could keep her from getting her team in the flow, we could be successful. We only gave up 32 points, that is good defensive effort."
Tipp opened the second half looking to add to their lead. A mix of different scorers helped the Red Devils take their lead out to 45-23, and Tipp ended the quarter on a 12-2 run, and closed the door to any comeback thoughts leading 53-25 heading to the fourth.
Tipp enjoyed a balanced attack in the victory. Following Printz (who also had six assists)was Clodfelter scoring 14, Logan with 10, and Aubrey Cox scored seven points with 10 rebounds. Williams led the way for Stebbins with 14 points.
Tipp is now 10-2, as they prepare to battle the third-place team in the league, traveling to Tecumseh tonight. They also played Wayne on Mondayin a game that was after deadline. The Red Devils are off this weekend.
