Division 2 Girls- both Tippecanoe and Bethel will be sending swimmers to Miami this weekend. Participating at the Centerville Sectionals, Alexis Cook advanced in three individual events, as the Tipp sophomore finished second in the 50 Free with a time of 24.98. Cook also advanced in the 100 Free as she placed second again in that event, swimming a time of 54.68. Bethel junior Alaina Wright placed third in the meet with a time of 55.49, also advancing to the district meet. The top three swimmers in that meet all swam under one minute, with a gap of five seconds to the fourth-place finisher who finished in 1:00.30.

Cook again shined in the 200 Free, as she again placed second overall with a time of 1:57.66 to advance to the districts. Her teammate Nicole Downing, a Tippecanoe freshman, finished sixth overall with a time of 2:20.64 placing her as an alternate for districts.

In the 500 Free, Arielle Arnett, the Tippecanoe senior who will be swimming at Oakland University starting next season, placed second overall with a time of 5:08.93, falling by .01 seconds off the winning time from MacLeary Moran from Chaminade Julienne. Arnett will get a chance at her again this weekend at the districts.

Two more area swimmers advanced in individual events, as Tipp’s Tori Prenger placed fourth in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:07.59, and Bethel’s Wright captured the 100 Butterfly sectional championship, as the junior swam 59.45 to the win.

Advancing in the relays included three Tippecanoe teams, the 200 Free (fifth at sectionals), the 400 Free (second at sectionals) and the 200 Medley team that placed fourth.

Division One Girls-in the Girls Division One sectional meet at Trotwood, it was four Tecumseh Arrows that advanced into this weekend’s district meet. In the 50 Free, Arrows sophomore Julia Randenburg placed second overall in the sectionals with a time of 26.07, less than one second behind the winning time from Butler. She will advance to the districts in not only that event, but the 100 Free also, finishing second again with a time of 57.62.

Hannah Peck brought home the gold to the Arrows, as the senior won the 200 Free sectional championship swimming a time of 2:06.70, nearly two seconds ahead of her closest competitor from Northmont.

Michelle Murray also advanced from Tecumseh, as the sophomore finished second overall in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:06.89.

Boys Swimming- Four area teams will be sending boys to the Division Two district meet this weekend at Miami, including Tippecanoe senior Ben Jans, who placed sixth in the 50 Free with a time of 23.87, one of two individual events he will be involved with.  Jans also advanced in the 100 Free after another sixth place finish (52.90).

In the 200 Free, Tippecanoe sophomore Matthew Poynter captured the sectional championship with a time of 1:55.40, while in the 500 Free a pair of swimmers have advanced to the next round, as Poynter placed fourth overall with a time of 5:20.29 and Northwestern’s Drew Blazer qualified at the Centerville sectionals with a time of 5:35.28.

Tipp’s Ryan Wall finished second overall in the 100 Backstroke, sending him to the districts, while in the 100 Breast, Greenon freshman Calvin Wise captured the sectional title with a time of 1:03.09, less than one second ahead of his closest competition.

Wise wasn’t through yet, as the Knight cruised to the sectional championship in the 200 IM, swimming a 2:03.27, over two seconds ahead of the second-place swimmer.

The Tipp and Bethel 200 Free Relay teams are headed to district, as the Red Devils were third overall at sectional and the Bees fifth. Both schools will also send their 400 Relay team also, with Tipp placing second and Bethel fifth.

Finally the Tipp 200 Medley team placed third overall to advance

*The district meet will be held this weekend at Miami University. Tipp, Bethel, Greenon and Northwestern boys’ participants will swim on Friday at 10:45 a.m., the Tipp and Bethel girls will compete at 5:45 p.m. on Friday, and the Tecumseh girls’ swimmers will be swimming on Saturday at 5:45 p.m.
