The game had everything you could possibly want.

It had three overtimes, a buzzer beater, 11 three-pointers and a near record-breaking performance.

Tippecanoe strengthened their hold on the GWOC North title with a game that some people said was the best game in recent memory, as the Red Devils defeated Sidney 88-81 in triple overtime. With the win, Tipp takes a commanding three game lead in the division as they head toward a GWOC championship in their first season in the league.

Tippecanoe placed three players with 20+ points, including emerging junior Cali Stewart with 25 points including a buzzer-beater at the end of the first overtime to save the game for Tipp, sending the game to the second overtime. Also for Tipp, Taylor Prall added 23, Brooke Aselage scored 21 and Allison Mader contributed 14.

Sidney’s 6-foot-3 senior Celena Taborn finished one point shy of Konnor Harris’ school record for points in a game, as she poured in 48 points to lead the Yellow Jackets.

It was a big game for three pointers, as Tipp hit 11 and Sidney connected on 10.

“It was a nice win for program,” said Tippecanoe coach Andy Holderman. “Taborn was just a beast down there, we had a tough time defending her and we expired all of our options on that.”

“The girls bounced back, and this is exactly what we wanted going into the tournament.”

Sidney jumped out to an early lead 9-3 thanks to Taborn who was unstoppable in the opening period. She scored 12 points in the first period as she scored in the paint at will. Tipp stayed closed thanks to the three-point line, as they connected on five three-pointers including two from Prall. Tipp used the final 3:30 to outscore Sidney 11-4 to take a 20-17 lead into the second period.

Tipp maintained their lead at the half 31-26 and Tipp started to pull away in the third period with a barrage of early three’s in the first four minutes of the quarter, taking their lead out to 42-34 with 4:55 left.

The Red Devils scored six straight points capped by a layup from Aselage to give Tipp a 48-37 lead. They maintained a 10 point lead headed to the fourth.

Sidney stormed back in the fourth and with 1:05 left, the Jackets tied the game on a three, setting up the Red Devils for the possible game winner.

Mader tossed up a runner in the paint with seconds left that fell off sending the game to overtime.

Tipp scored quickly in the first overtime to take a four point lead, before Taborn scored twice in the paint to give the Yellow Jackets a 65-63 lead with six seconds left. On a scramble, Stewart nailed a controversial three-point game winner at the buzzer, later changed to a two, and sending the game to a second overtime.

Sidney led by four with 1:50 left in the second overtime before Asleage scored on a three-point play and Prall gave the Red Devils a one-point lead. Sidney tied the game up and it was off the a third overtime.

Tipp pulled away with a 6-0 run to take a 86-79 lead with under a minute left, and Stewart connected on three free throws in the final minute to preserve the win.
