Behind a pair of dominant quarters, the Tippecanoe boys’ basketball team had no problem defeating West Carrollton last weekend 59-33 in GWOC play.
Tipp built an early 16-4 lead as they jumped on the Pirates from the start and never looked back. The Red Devils maintained a 27-16 lead at the half before putting the game away in the third period.
Tipp outscored West Carrollton 21-4 in the third, to end any suspense and lead 48-20 going to the fourth quarter.
The Red Devils used a balanced scoring attack in the win. Quenten Williams led Tipp with 12 points, while Adam Grieshop scored 11, Cade Gingerich added eight, Caiden Smith with seven, and six each from Zach Bonifas and Noah Bledsoe.
Earlier in the week, the Red Devils suffered a 92-60 loss at Trotwood Madison, as the Rams pulled away in the second half after building a 47-33 lead at the break.
Bonifas exploded for 31 points in the loss for Tipp, while Smith added eight for Tipp.
The Red Devils hosted Sidney last night, and return to action Friday night at Piqua for a 7:30 start.
Tipp Swimming : Tippecanoe had a successful GWOC divisional meet last weekend, as the boys’ team placed fourth overall in the GWOC North division, and the girls’ team placed second.
For the boys, Matthew Poynter placed fourth overall in the 200 Free with a time of 1:58.78, with teammate Ben Jans fifth at 1:59.58.
In the 200 IM, Ryan Wall placed third (2:16.02), while Jans came back and finished third in the 50 Free. Placing fourth in the 100 Butterfly was Wall with a time of 1:01.74, and he came back in the 100 Free and placed sixth, followed by Evan Hill who was seventh.
The 500 Free saw Poynter finish second with a 5:28.81, while the 100 Backstroke had Wall place second and Jans fourth.
In the 100 Breaststroke, Poynter placed fifth, Jans sixth and Wall seventh.
As for the relays, Tipp was third in the 200 Medley, third in the 200 Free, and third in the 400 Free.
For the Tipp girls, the 200 Medley relay team placed fifth overall, while the 200 Free team also placed fifth, and the 400 Free team took home a first place finish with a 3:56.89.
In the 200 Free, Tipp swept the top two spots as Arielle Arnett won the event with a 1:55.41, and Alexis Cook was second at 2:09.34. Arnett came back and was second in the 200 IM with Cook fourth, and in the 50 Free, Cook earned a championship finish with a time of 26.37.
Cook came back and finished third in the 100 Butterfly, and won the 100 Free with a time of 54.02.
In the 500 Free, Arnett won that event with a time of 5:26.86, and two Tipp swimmers placed in the top four in the 100 Backstroke as Tori Prenger was second overall and Alissa Buynak was fourth.
Prenger was sixth in the 100 Breaststroke, while teammate Carsyn Woltz was seventh.
Tipp Bowling - The Red Devils boys’ squad lost to Butler 2649-2244. High games for Tipp came from James Ridgeway with a 245 and Stephen Ridgeway 239, while James Ridgeway also finished with a high series 469 and Stephen Ridgeway had 428.
Butler defeated the Tipp girls 1967-1571, as Ashlyn Herzog and Jessica Goodson each bowled a high game 152 with Abbey Lee 147. High series was Herzog 291 and Goodson 285.
