In what turned out to be a great match, the Bethel soccer team defeated Lehman 2-1 last week in a non-league match. Tyler Brueckman scored first for the Bees with an assist from Collin Rust to give the Bees a 1-0 lead.
Zach Cohee made it 2-0 with a pass from Rust, before Lehman scored to make the game a one-goal decision.
“I felt this was a good match tonight,” said Bethel coach Bob Hamlin. “Coming in, we wanted to establish possession and let that build up into some attacks. I thought in the first half we did a very good job of that.”
“We scored early and had pressure on them but could not find the back of the net. In the second half we wanted to maintain possession but go a little more inside out and back in again. We were able to do that especially when Zach Cohee headed in a great ball from Collin Rust. “
Lehman didn’t give up and despite their 1-5 record, battled Bethel the entire night.
“To Lehman's credit they never gave up and they kept bringing some numbers forward and scored with about six minutes remaining to make things interesting at the end,” Hamlin said. “Although we did not put the ball into the net as much as I would have liked we did play fairly well against a decent Lehman team who is better than their record indicates.”
