Arielle Arnett brought home the only championship finish for the Tippecanoe swim team as they competed in the Southwest Ohio Classic held at Trotwood Madison High School. Despite Arnett being the only individual swimmer to earn a win, several others finished with strong places in the prestigious event. Tipp also tasted victory in the relays.
Arnett swam a 2:13.53 in the 200 IM, gaining a comfortable win over second place Emma Swabb from Brookville by nearly three seconds.
In the same race, Tipp’s Alexis Cook finished sixth overall and Tori Prenger was eighth in the event.
In addition to her win, Arnett also placed second overall in two other events for Tipp; she swam a 1:55.41 for a second place finish in the 200 Free, and a 5:03.29 placing her second in the 500 Free.
Also earning a second place overall in the 200 Fly was Tipp junior Alissa Buynak with a time of 2:59.52.
Ben Jans swam to a second place finish in the boys 50 Breaststroke, as he finished the event in 32.68 seconds. Jans also placed third overall in the 100 IM with a time of 1:03.55.
On the girls’ side, Prenger had two outstanding finishes to give her a pair of third place finishes in the meet. In the 100 Back, she swam 1:08.75 while in the 200 Breast, Prenger finished with a 2:53.05.
Several Tipp swimmers placed fourth overall in their respective races. In the 200 Free, Arnett swam 1:54.56 for the Red Devils, while in the 100 IM, it was Kayla Bruns who was fourth with a time of 1:16.62.
Alec Schwartz placed fourth in the boys 50 Back with a time of 32.78, and in the girls 200 Breast, Carsyn Woltz finished with a time of 2:54.72, placing her fourth overall as well.
The Tipp 400 Free Relay team swam to a championship in the meet, as they edged Butler for the title by swimming a 3:56.89, less than .10 seconds ahead of the Aviators. The Tipp 200 and 400 Medley Relay teams also placed third overall in each of their events.
Also last week, Tipp came back in a home meet and the girls’ won the meet with 280 points, and the boys’ placed second overall behind Kenton Ridge. The Red Devils won the combined team total for the meet.
*Also last weekend, Tipp finished second overall in the Kenton Ridge Invitational for the boys’ and fourth in the girls’ race.
Top five finishes for the Tipp squad included: Girls 200 Medley Relay (Arnett, Prenger, Cook, Woltz) placed fourth, Boys 200 Medley Relay (Hill, Matthew Poynter, Ryan Wall, Jans) finished fourth, Arnett was fourth in the girls 200 Free, Poynter placed second and Jans third overall in the boys 200 Free, while placing fourth in the boys 200 IM was Wall, with Hill finishing fifth.
Also for Tipp, Cook was second in the girls 50 Free, while she also placed fourth in the 100 Free.
Wall finished third in the boys 100 Back.
