Tippecanoe scored quickly on their opening possession of the game, which set the tone for what was going to be an entertaining night of football for the Red Devils. Tipp used that momentum to build an insurmountable lead at the half, and cruised to an easy 76-22 victory over Ben Logan at the Tipp Park Stadium.
Tipp scored on the first play from scrimmage, following a big kickoff return by Cameron Gibbs. Jakob Prall sprinted 44 yards for the games’ first score just 25 seconds into the game, giving Tipp a quick 7-0 lead over the Raiders.
The Raiders then shocked the crows by driving 60 yards on five plays, capped by a 10-yard touchdown pass at the 10:04 mark, giving the Raiders an 8-7 lead over the Red Devils. But just that quickly, Tipp came back.
Following a huge pass from Brandon Gotthardt to Bobby Hopkins set the Red Devils deep in Raiders territory, Gibbs scored from six yards out to regain the lead at 14-8. It was the beginning of what was going to be a big night for the Red Devils.
Ben Logan began another drive which was stopped when Trevor Staggs intercepted a Raiders pass, but fumbled on the play which Ben Logan recovered. Two plays later, Prall picked off a pass to give the ball back to the Red Devils.
At the end of the first quarter, Tipp added to their lead. After Prall saw a touchdown called back, he came back and added a 39-yard sprint for another score. The Red Devils led 21-8 after 12 minutes.
The second period saw the Red Devils explode for 41 points and go into the half with a large lead.
Aaron Hughes returned a punt at the beginning of the second period for a touchdown to push their lead out to 28-8, then had two big defensive stops to force the Raiders to punt.
Prall struck again, as he broke loose for a 52-yard touchdown run with 7:57 left in the half, taking their lead to 35-8.
After a huge stop on fourth down, the Tipp offense scored again when Goddhardt hit Prall with a 30 yard pass to give Tipp a 42-8 lead midway through the second period. Tipp was far from done in the half.
Staggs returned an interception for a big touchdown less than a minute later, then on their next possession, a touchdown pass to Prall from 28 yards gave Tipp a 55-8 lead.
Another Tipp interception by Hughes set them up for the final score of the half, when Gibbs scored from 16 yards out. After Tyler Stump intercepted a pass for Tipp at the end of the half, the Red Devils led 62-8.
Staggs scored again to start the third, and later Clay Barhorst added a 24 yard touchdown run, giving Tipp a 76-15 lead.
The Red Devils travel to Indian Lake Friday night for a 7:30 game.
