Two members of the Tippecanoe wrestling team brought home championships last weekend, as the Red Devils participated in the Bulldog Invitational at Milton Union High School on Saturday.

Caleb Blake at 145 pounds, and Grant Carlson at 220 both managed to work their way through their respective weight class and won their championship match to bring gold home to Tippecanoe.

Blake opened his day with a pin against Milton’s Klay Powers in 2:41 where he advanced to his next match against Ethan Thompson of Monroe, where Blake picked up another pin in the second round at 2:56. The Tipp wrestler then advanced to the finals, where he beat Jordan Cress of Milton Union 7-2 to earn the title.

At 220, Carlson also won his opening match against Caleb Smith of Twin Valley South in a first period pin in 1:02, then picked up another pin against Daniel Milbry of Brookville in 3:26 and Alex Cruea in 1:56. Carlson then pinned Tyler Courtright of Milton Union in 3:41 before advancing to the finals where he pinned Nathaniel Clayton of Alter in 4:33.

At 113, Tipp’s Blake Ballard lost his opening match to Aaron Beckman on 5:23, then was pinned in 2:36 by Camron Neal of Preble Shawnee before bouncing back with a win in his third match, a 20 second pin against Anthony Hamilton of Monroe. Ballard finished sixth overall after losing in the fifth-place match to Devin Miller of Brookville 8-1.

Cameron Abrams wrestled at 120 for Tipp, and fell in his opening match to Conner Rushing of Alter in 1:32, before defeating Trevor Hall of Dixie 15-8 in his second round match. Abrams lost to Peyton Brown of Milton Union in 1:30 in his final match.

At 126, Austyn Bruno fell in his first match, as the Tipp grappler lost to Wyatt Nace of Dixie in 4:19. In his second round, Bruno lost to Cory Tracey of Monroe in 3:18, and Spencer Haman of Monroe in his third match via a 12 second pin. Bruno did come back with a win against Isaac Bryant of Mechanicsburg by forfeit.

Lewis Abram wrestled at 132 for Tipp, and won his first round by pin over Cory Neegarden of Brookville, before falling to Reuben Cohen of Monroe in 3:11. Abram was then pinned in his third match by Travis Tatum of Preble Shawnee in 33 seconds, followed by a loss to James Sager of Milton Union in 4:10.

At 138, Tipp’s Vincent Snouffer fell short in his opening round to Logan Duncan of Preble Shawnee in 3:07, then lost in 40 seconds to Kamron Paulus of Milton Union. He recovered to gain a win over Cam Caton of Columbus Grove in 1:29, before falling to Logan White of Twin Valley South in 4:58. Snouffer then placed sixth overall with a loss to Mike Osterfeld of Alter in the fifth-place match.

Lucas Moore wrestled at 152 for Tipp, and won his opening match against Alex Arnold of Monroe in 2:31. He then suffered a lost to Dylan Schenck of Milton Union in 1:42, and lost an 18-5 major decision to Jack Forschner to Alter, before losing 16-0 in his final match to Drew Combs of Preble Shawnee.

Brandon Singleton lost his opening round match at 160, falling to Steven Brown of Dixie in 1:54, then lost to Kanyon Schall of Preble Shawnee in 3:19. Singleton then suffered a loss to Paul Brown of Milton Union, and a 6-4 loss to Jaren Patterson of Mechanicsburg.

At 182 for Tipp was Mason Pence, as he lost his opener to Josiah White of Brookville in 5:51, before bouncing back to defeat Zayne Reed of West Liberty Salem in 4:57. Pence then won this third round match against Jacob Oaks of Monroe by forfeit before falling to Skyler Straszeim of Twin Valley South in 1:55. Pence then wrestled for third place overall, but lost to Dakota Sargeant of Columbus Grove by forfeit.

Tippecanoe returns to the mat tomorrow night at Carroll, then heads to Western Brown on Saturday.
