The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 586, Tipp City has awarded five scholarships valued at $500.00 each to deserving members or children of members this year.
The first was awarded by the Children and Youth Program Chairman to Andrew Fulton, a graduating senior who will be attending Indiana University on his journey to become a neuro-surgeon. He is the grandson of Allen Luff, member of the American Legion and the Riders of the American Legion.
The Past President's Group awarded two scholarships. The first awarded to Taylor Drake, great granddaughter of members Don and Viola Williams. Ms. Drake, a member in her own right, is majoring in nursing at Clark State Community College and hopes to become a Nurse Practitioner. The other scholarship was awarded to LaDonna Wasson, member, also majoring in nursing at Sinclair Community College.
The final two were awarded by the Education Program Chairman to Kendra Beckman, granddaughter of member Norma Adkins. She is majoring in Political Science at Wright State University and hopes to return to Miami East to teach and coach varsity soccer. The other scholarship was awarded to Brittany Andrews, daughter of members Steve and Kelly Andrews. Ms. Andrews is pursuing a degree in business at the University of Toledo.
The scholarships are awarded each year to members, spouses, children, grandchildren or great-grand children of members.
